When the wars came, those who enlisted only to face a segregated military was reality for

Being placed on the front lines as cannon fodder was the cost of serving for
People like me.
The ones who came home and suffered in silence were
People like me
The wives of the ones who didn't come home and got nothing were
People like me
The ones who were beaten in the streets when marching for equality were
People like me
The ones who were tortured and lynched over false claims were
People like me
The ones who boycotted, organized and made a change were
People like me
The ones who stood in long lines and were harassed when trying to vote were
People like me
The ones who were injured and died fighting for Civil Rights were
People like me
The ones who continue to fight for freedom and justice today are
People like me
Through struggle and blood we MADE them include us in the Constitution. We MADE the States include us. We FOUGHT the to have the rights of an entire human being, not just 3/5ths of one.
Yes we are tired. Even exhausted. We feel like we have been on the front lines for generations. And we have.
But now is different. The battle for survival now is for us and us alone in our effort to know and preserve our history because the new 2025 regime wants to take it all away. We must not let the 2025 regime erase our past or minimize the struggles of those who came before us. Through hardship, pain and adversity we always rise. We are resilient and tenacious. We are fierce and bold. Fearlessness through community is our strength. Do not let them take your history from you and diminish you, though they will try.
The 2025 regime is saying they have put us back in our place. Well our place is in their face. We aren't going anywhere.
Save those old tattered history books that tell stories about our struggle. Find stories online and print them out before they disappear. Read them to your children and grand children. Pass down your family's stories, traditions and tales of inspiration and struggle, happiness and sadness. Don't be afraid of your past and hold onto secrets you are afraid to tell. Your story is important. Your family history is important. Your children and family need to know. We can't change anything that has already happened, but we can tell them about it. Sometimes it is hard, but it is OK.
Those who have become ancestors can't speak. But we can speak for them. We can speak about them. We can tell their truth. We can open up and let our children know their stories, even if those stories hurt. Even if those stories are not always happy. Because the stories of those who came before us are a precious and unique part of the tapestry of your history. Don't be afraid. Don't hide anymore.
As we prepare for this new and difficult chapter, as our ancestral story is being whitewashed, banned and erased by those who mean to do us harm, we need to protect and preserve ourselves and our history– We must be our own teachers and ensure WE never let the 2025 regime take OUR noble past from us.
Because that is what they intend to do.
