Hello everyone! Iris here. I lice natural hair, as well as permed hair. Can’t we as women live both? I grew up in a household where all members of my family’s hair was celebrated. Could, kinky curly, 4C, you name it! Now, I appreciate all hair types. Last year I finished cosmetology school and oh man, they tricked me!
They didn’t teach anything but basics. Braids? You can forget that!
I HAD TO TEACH A CLASD ON BRAIDS! They should have paid me smh.
Well all that is past and I am feeeling energized to continue doing Brazilian knots and braids, and do I have a special for you!
First of all, I would like you to know that after I posted my youtube vide on Remy hair for a sewin that lasted a long time, I can honestly say that I didn’t have any time for myself and that’s how I started to find ways to make my Sewins stretch and last longer.
My hair texture is 4b/4C when I leave it too long I’m a weave and wash it. No amount of conditioner will loosen the coils!
I noticed that trying to flat iron my 4b/4C could resulted in breakage- Int hair couldn’t absorb much moisturizer unless I twisted it or braided it into big sections overnight. Heat from my body sleeping did wonders, so that’s when I realized that if I could find 5hours during the day, I could get the same effect.
But who has 5 hours during the day when we have bills to pay, right?
Well, I am currently located in south Jersey in Lindenwold and I miss central New Jersey. My friend recently passed away and I feel

Ladies,
I'm an Indian guy and I just want to let you know that black women look so much more beautiful with their natural hair. I am turned off big time by ladies who straighten their hair and/or add weaves to their hair as well as fake eyelashes. They look too artificial and more like extras from a science fiction movie.
I hope this natural hair trend picks up and more and more black women go natural with their hair - it's not only their birthright but it also enhances their beauty in ways I am cannot describe - it just looks right, you know? This is probably due to millions of years of evolution that matches face structure and features to the hair type to maximize beauty. Straightened hair somehow just reduces the beauty level from my perspective. Maybe there are specific face types for which straightened hair may enhance the beauty but for the most part, natural hair is the optimal feature.
I would say that the black woman with the most majestic natural hair I've seen is Rutina Wesley from the TV show "Queen Sugar". I'm amazed at the level of creativity and diversity one can have with natural nappy hair that is simply not possible with natural straight hair. I hope more black women follow the example of Ms. Wesley and carry such majestic masterpieces on their head with pride.

I am so ready for locs, I'm 63 and totally gray (it's pretty). The girl that started them in April just left her clients. I found someone else,but I am ready to do my on and I'm unsure as to how do I proceed. I am locking but thin at the roots interlocked the last few months. So I wonder how long will twisting the new growth last before I interlock again. Already the strands are thin because of the tightness used when interlocked, it took three washes and a lot of soothing product to reduce the tension please help! I live in a small town and don't have 3 choices.

I'm an adoptive mama to 2 biracial girls. My youngest has the kinkiest hair and there is SOOOOO much I don't know. Hoping to find answers here.
We got her first braids recently (she's 2.5). I'd been trying to learn on my own and had to find the pros cause it wasn't working at all ;) I realized so many things I didn't know that my black friends didn't know to tell me because it was such basic info. Like braid on dry hair!!! LOL. I'd always tried it wet because that's how I do mine and I thought the point of a protective style was to do it when the hair is wet and keep the moisture and product in. Now I'm kind of confused. I usually deep condition once a week and try to do a protective style afterwards (puffs, twists, etc). I can't get most styles to last more than a day. I'm wondering if the hair needs to be completely dry before doing any styling for it to hold? Should I blow dry or air dry? Blow dry seems to go against the whole point of deep conditioning the hair. If it air dries, her curl pattern is set and I don't really like to disrupt it - it looks so good! Also, don't know how much the mixed hair differs in it's tendency to pull out of a style. It seems like her curls have lots of slip.
Help me - I know even less than I thought and I didn't start with much ;) hahaha.

Hi everyone, new to the forum today. I have been looking for a forum similar to some old forums I belongs too that are pretty much abandoned. I've been all natural for about 20 years. I managed to grow my hair to about an inch above mid back length in the past. I just cut it myself to start fresh with clean and even ends. And I tried starting a hair growth challenge with the other natural girls at work but they weren't into it. So I started by myself on November 12th.
My issue is other than the article I just read on another thread here by the creator. Every single source online says your hair can ONLY grow 1/2 inch per month. 6 inches per year. But how can that be true if we are all different and unique but all of our hair growth is exactly the same??? I've seen so many commenters (in other forums/social media outlets) argue or call each other liars if the hair grew any longer than 1/2 an inch.
But for this challenge. Just for my eyes only, I took a video to help keep track of my growth visually with dates and everything. I measured my hair two days ago and my growth is an inch, actually just slightly over an inch. I measured it 10 times, and watch my original video while measuring to make sure I match the measurements perfectly and use the same area of hair. And took a video of it and compared the too. I grew just over an inch and it hasn't been a whole month yet.
I'm going nuts, is this possible? Im afraid to post anywhere else because people can be just plain mean. I'm happy about the growth. But it is unexpected. I'm not sure how to feel. In my mind after all the research I just keep telling myself somehow I measured incorrectly. But is the research wrong?

Hi all, I'm new here and I need help. I guess I'll start by telling you all my story.
So I started to embrace my hair back in 2016. All my life I was told I had "Bad" hair. My mom would get frustrated because she did not know how to manage my curly hair and she chopped it all off when I was 4. Later on as I got older she figured relaxing it was better. Once I got more control of my hair at the age of 16 I stopped relaxing because I knew I didn't need that. However I was still subscribed to the idea that straight hair was "good" and beautiful hair. Around 23 years I was going through a lot of changes internally. One day I started to research hair care tips online and I stumbled upon Devacurl and the CGM and a bunch of youtubers who were in the process of or successfully transitioning to wearing their hair curly. At the time I was doing Brazilian Keratin straightening treatments. ( I still had no idea how to care for my hair or how to love it and I thought that a sleek look was easy to manage and my best option).
Soon after all my research I got a haircut by a devacurl certified stylist. In these 3 years I've gone through many ups and downs with my curly hair adventure. I no longer blow dry my hair or flat iron it unless i'm going to a special event where I do want to wear my hair straight...which is very rare. However I still do color my hair. I've experimented with SO many different products and I am a self professed product junkie. For the past 2 years I have been very bad about regularly trimming or cutting my hair. I have a deep distrust of people handling my hair and devacurl salon visits soon proved to be too expensive for my poor pockets. My hair was thriving when I trimmed myself at home but of course since I am not a professional I gave myself a lot of holes and uneven haircuts.
Then this fall I decided to color my hair to switch things up. I made the mistake of trusting a friend to do it since she colors her own hair and her hair looks nice and beautifully colored. It turned out horrible. I had to buy a box of color at the pharmacy to cover up the horrible color. Things seemed fine still but then I decided it was time for a professional haircut. I wanted to protect my poor pockets so I went to a beauty school and the guy who cut my hair is a professional who has been cutting hair for decades, but he has no expertise in curly hair. He did the best he could I'm not going to lie, He evened everything out and blended all the holes I had given myself.
When I showed my loved ones they all hated the new haircut. The shape was very unflattering. I could not bring myself to hate the haircut or to love it either. All I knew then was that my frayed ends were gone and my head felt much more lighter and my hair could breathe. I told myself that I got the haircut I needed and not the haircut I wanted. Fast forward 2 months...my hair is a complete mess! my curls won't curl. My hair is completely unmanageable. Nothing and I mean Nothing works. Oil treatments, deep conditioning, protective hairstyles, satin pillow cases, NOTHING.
Now I feel confused and concerned because it's like nothing I have experienced before in my process. I don't know if it's because of the cold winter weather or because I started to use head and shoulders shampoo after the haircut, the heat in my apartment, the haircut, the coloring, or if my hair is going through a process. All I know is that my hair feels wiry, dull, dry, it won't absorb any products and it won't curl, I have so much shedding and my ends are frayed again.

Hello beautiful ladies!
I have a 4c twa and I'm really getting into the groove of things. However, I've noticed that my hair just eats any kind of moisture within 2 days, maximum. So far I've tried Jessicurl deep conditioner, urban hydration honey health & repair daily moisturizer (My liquids), creme of nature moisture rich hair butter & sheamoisture curling smoothie (My cream/butter), Natural Hair Queens Butta Butta Cream and Sweet almond oil (My oils).
I use the LCO method because I think that works a little better for me, but whatever combination of my products that I use, it always seems on the 2nd day it needs moisture again. I've read around and some people manage to get their hair to stay moisturized for 7 days?? Lol How is that possible??
My question is - What are some sure fire ways to know for sure that I need to moisturize again? I've been gently pulling sections and seeing if it snaps back or not.

So, I recently started my hair journey over this November 2nd, and I'd say I've made some really great progress in these short few weeks (I'll show you). However, I'm having a bit of a hard time identifying what hair type I have because I just recently big chopped (I've NEVER worn my natural hair until now, 21 years later).
I'd like to think that I have 100% 4c hair, but I think it might be a mix between 4b/4c because I have SOME curls, but definitely not enough to be 4a. Please help me out, ladies!

I just wanted to take the time to introduce myself and get familiar with the forum. As I said before, my name is Brianna (On forums i usually go by my handle so Elo, Eloquent, Elixir - whatever floats your boat!) and i recently started my hair journey over again on November 2nd after being frustrated with my hair for years.
It turned out that oil wasnt the solve all to my problems! My hair was dry, even though I was oiling it daily? My hair was just so nappy when I tried to comb it? My hair and scalp always felt dry and my dandruff was out of control! What was I doing wrong? Girl, everything for starters!
Now that I'm aware of hair types, density, porosity and all that other good stuff, I'm making great strides in taking care of my hair

Everyone is talking about how Biden has the Black woman vote on lock. I'm not so sure about this. I see his approval among us being more from his familiarity with us than with his policy. He represents to me the safe, easy (lazy) Democratic voter. I am one of those people who likes Biden, who he is and how he handles himself - but when I saw Kamala up against him on that debate stage and listened to her personal stories, she moved up a few notches with me. Picture Biden as Trump - she eviscerates her opponents by by being prepared, succinct and laser focused. Biden was shocked by her prowess and that diminished him in my eyes.
Kamala nailed it.
As far as the other candidates worth mentioning, Bernie Sanders was the same old Bernie Sanders. Nothing new and everything I expected.

Swalwell - mayo with hot sauce
