Chebe products?

Hi, all. I hope everyone is safe and sound as things are crazy right now between this pandemic and everything else going on.

I found a new thing on Instagram (IG). IG is now a new place for companies to advertise their various beauty products. I saw an add for some hair butter made with chebe powder. According to that add and other stuff that I looked up, it's a powder that's used on the hair of women in Chad. Here is a post talking about it: https://www.byrdie.com/chebe-powder-hair-growth-4773123

The images I saw are great, so I figured why not? I ordered some chebe butter during the Thanksgiving sales. The site isn't the slickest, but if the product works, I don't care. Tonight I used it to twist my hair after showering.

The tingle feels great, and if I get just half of the results that people claim, I'll be happy.

Has anyone else heard about or used chebe powder, butters, or oils?

Newbie

Hi - I'm new to the forum. I've been natural since I grew out my perm in 2009. Most people still think I have a perm because I flat iron my hair, which I believe is between a 3c/4a. I only flat iron my hair once every two weeks and I am seeking new ways to get my hair healthier. I've been using aloe vera and castor oil for the last few months. I discovered about two months ago that if I braided my hair in small sections after I washed it that I didn't have to use the dryer because it will dry by the morning. I was really happy about this because I know that the less heat you have in your hair, the more healthy it will be. Eventually, I would like to find more styles to wear my hair in its natural state. I'm here to find out more tips.

TEXTURIZER IN 4C HAIR didn’t keep the curls?

I applied a Texturizer with lye to my 4C hair, it turned to (Jheri curl) like curls while the Texturizer was in there. I was extremely satisfied with the results so I rinsed it out. Even when I applied the shampoo it was still very loose curls. HOWEVER, once I used the conditioner NEARLY all of the results(curls) went away. My 4c hair definitely has reduced shrinkage since, but not the results I expected or EVEN SAW in my Hair. What did I do wrong? Is there any way I can keep the loose curls I had? -My hair is 7inches -I am a male. -it was my first time doing it. Responses appreciated!

Lock Journey, 1, 2, 3, 4.... Drop Your Knowledge!

What have you learned in your different lock journeys that could help someone else?

This summer I hit 7 yrs Sisterlocked. Previously, as many on this site know, I was 6 yrs Braid-locked (06-13).
I've learned alot. But here are some highlights:

Chill on the food products in your hair (ie. honey is ok but when combined with other products, honey can create a breeding ground for 'stuff and kill your locks, be careful...inbox for details).Rosewater or filtered water is better than aloe vera juice to moisturize locks.Less is best. Diluted shampoo, a dab of VitE and some water can bless your whole lock journey. Chill on products.Sisterlocks CAN be maintained DIY from day 1. I did it, experiment successful.Cover your hair when you can.My mature Sisterlocks are lighter, dont cause neck pain. My Braidlocks hurt my neck at that stage. My grey doesn't integrate well into my locks, all good though. The locking process is significantly different for different installation foundations. It's been quite a different journeyBanding really is important for SLs during the first 2-3 months.I cut locks to shoulder length for first 6 yrs....now, just letting them grow down my back again. My locks fit better in my bike helmet that way.

For me, life really is really more peaceful with locks and ....
more later.

Helli!

Been googling for the last several days trying to find info about products for my hair type and thought, dang there's probably some natural hair forums out there that would be a better resource than these articles written to appeal to girls with 2a hair lol. Glad to be here.

Hey Guys!!

Hi everyone I hope you’re all safe and staying healthy during these crazy times!! Hopefully you girls can give me some advice!! I have an 11 year old daughter. She’s been relaxed since the age of 5. Her hair has never really took to the relaxers as well as it could. Even though she would get relaxers her thick 4c texture would never come out bone straight, but it made her hair manageable for me to style. Recently back in April of this year during COVID-19 I noticed a lot of breakage in the back area of her head. I think the last relaxer that I applied was a bad one (hair stores where shut down), and that’s what caused the damage! I put her hair into large box braids for a month and when I took them down the breakage to her hair had spread up to almost ear to ear!

At this point I decided to cut off the relaxed ends of her hair to prevent further damage and to regrow my baby’s beautiful healthy hair! I’m dedicated to this healthy hair journey and I’ve committed myself to no longer use relaxers or any types of chemical treatments on her hair. I’m a newbie at this, and it’s not easy! So far I’ve been:
1. Shampooing /conditioning
2. Sectioning with Creamy Leave-In Conditioner / Shea Butter ->Twist out
This method has been working extremely well for her hair! As a result not only has her scalp been extremely clean and healthy, but her hair is staying very hydrated!

I’m running into problems when trying to style her hair! I’ve been trying to apply braids, or plaits with kanekalon hair, but it doesn’t last. I’m not sure what I’m doing wrong. I’m still trying to figure out which products work best for her hair. I’ve tried blowing her hair out prior to styling it, as well as using the hot comb to stretch her hair, but:
1. It straightens for a few minutes and then shrinks back up
2. It won’t straighten, and it curls right back up.
I used Janet 3X Carribean braid hair to Senegalese Twist her hair in its natural state using edge control, and Cantu Curl cream. After a day or so her natural hair shrinks and separates from the extensions, just like with the Kanekalon hair.

Her hair is very short right now, so i’m not sure what I’m able to do with it, but it’s getting frustrating and very expensive. I’m watching so many different videos and buying so many different products, and none of them are working! I’m sorry for writing such a long post, and I apologize if it’s confusing. Thanks in advance for any advice and support!

Newbie: 2 years into Locs...trial and many errors.

About me
53 years old, I'm on a journey... like we all are!

About my hair; I finally found what my hair wants to do: Loc. And I've been everywhere on my hair journey from shaved clean bald to bone strait relaxer... as many have had.

Two years in to my journey I learned by many trials and error.

One I learned that my scalp and hair are two different entities and I can't treat them the same. My hair does NOT like natural oils, I've tried MANY. When I apply natural oil to my scalp, I have a reaction where I get severe dandruff, flakes BURNING and ITCH! I learned that the natural fungus likes oil. ( I even tried Monastat on my scalp....)

I"m just one of those who cannot use the wonderful oils out there. I tried Aloe Vera plant--same result. I had to wash out my entire re-twist because my scalp was ON FIRE. But I do put olive oil on my locs avoiding the scalp all together. And the only thing that doesn't cause a reaction on my scalp is mineral oil.

I apply dandruff shampoo to my scalp only twice a month let it sit then rinse out then follow with a moisturizing shampoo for the hair--avoiding the scalp.

Daily: steam in the shower.

Monthly(just starting my winter routine): I deep condition with hair mayonaise. For locs, the rinsing is tricky: I rinse then fill the basin with water and soak until the water is clear. You'd be amazed at how much residue is still in there after a good rinse.

Twice a year, I put baking soda on my scalp, fill a basin with ACV and water and soak. The tingling is sensational and the it seems to give it a nice re-set.

Since my hair goes in many different directions on different parts of my head, I have to interlock the roots and then later roll my ends. My curl pattern does not want to hold the loc no matter which direction I go in.

This is where I may have made a mistake by squaring my starter locs instead of a more natural circular shape.

I learned just a few weeks ago my flat locs was due to not properly drying so I have a bonnet dryer and IT WORKS!

Any suggestions on my process? Can anyone relate to the oil issue?

Thanks!

Low porosity hair product build up

Hey y'all I wanted to know if anyone else is struggling with product build up on their low porosity hair? I think in addition to having this constant itching (due to product build up), I also have a sensitive scalp. Right now I have my hair in single chunky natural braids but my scalp feels like it's on fire with the dry air, sun exposure, and possible product usage like gel. I'm kinda overwhelmed and feel like I could keep talking about all my hair issues in this post but for now I'll leave it at this.

Thanks in advance!
